QMD workshop highlights role of technology in aviation safety

    Doha - Qatar, November 3, 2014: A FOUR-DAY seminar and workshop highlighting the role of technology in aviation safety and tackling challenges of climate change facing the aviation industry began in Doha on Monday.

    The workshop organised by Qatar Meteorology Department (QMD) in association with British Aviation and Meteorological and World Meteorological Organisation (WMO) is being attended by delegates from 12 countries, including Qatar.

    Addressing a gathering at the opening ceremony, Director of Meteorology Department Ahmed Abdulla Mohamed said that the technological developments and researches in aviation sector have a lot of relevance today."As air transportation network interlinks countries, the advancement of all branches in this sector is crucial," Mohamed said.

    Speaking to Qatar Tribune, Abdulla Mohammed al Mannai, Head of Forecasting and Analysis Section at QMD, said,"The event provides a platform for meteorologists from different countries to exchange information about latest technological researches in this field and share it with developing countries."

    "The event will feature seminars and workshops on competencies, quality management systems and the best practices in the aviation sector. We have implemented the latest technology in Qatar and are following the best practices in aviation and meteorology," Mannai added.

    Speaking on the occasion, Director-General of the Qatar Aeronautical College Ali al Malki stressed the need for sharing the latest developments in the aviation sector.

    An official of the Meteorological Office in the UK Felicity Worsfold said that the workshop will focus on the latest information on the best practices in aviation sector. While another participant from Tanzania, Danford Nyenyema said the workshop will help to meet new challenges and to improve the quality and safety of aviation in developing countries.

    The participating countries include South Sudan, Kenya, Pakistan, Iran, Gambia, China, Tanzania, Jordan, Thailand, Maldives and South Africa. The workshop will conclude on Thursday.
