The Engineering Department is led
by Mr. Jim Powell, a former CEO
(1999-2002) of the world renowned Air Service Training (AST)
in Perth, Scotland. While at AST Mr. Powell led the school
to JAR-147 approval by the UK CAA. Mr Powell is a Licensed
Aircraft Maintenance Engineer educated to Masters level and
is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society. He has both
military and civil experience.

The other instructors, led by Mr.
David Mackinnon, (Former Marketing Manager, AST) Senior
Instructor, are all highly experienced in civil and/or military
aircraft maintenance. All also have instructional experience
gained before joining QAC with two having previously run their
own schools. The nationalities represented by the maintenance
training, examination and quality staff, who have over 200 years
experience between them, are UK, South Africa, Australia and
New Zealand. |

Jim has 44 years of experience including his apprenticeship
training. He began his career with the British Royal Air Force
leaving after 13 years service to teach avionics at Bristol
Technical College where he was a Senior Lecturer. Then followed
travels to join the New Zealand Civil Aviation Authority as
an Airworthiness Engineer, Abu Dhabi Men’s College as
Supervisor Aviation, |
Qatar Aeronautical College as Quality Manager, Air Service Training (AST), Scotland as the Chief Executive Officer then back to Qatar Aeronautical College in his current post. While at AST Jim gained one of the first JAR
147 maintenance training school approvals in Europe.He was
also elected a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society. He
has no intention of retiring for some time to come.
