Class Description

The course is offered to candidates who have completed WMO Class III-Middle Level Technician course. The duration of the course is one year. On completion of the course the participant will graduate as a Senior Met Technician and will qualify to work as a Meteorological Officer or as an Assistant Forecaster.

  •  Analyze synoptic and meteorological weather charts and prepare aeronautical reports
  •  Understand general climatology and the statistical analysis of meteorological data
  •  Calculate thermodynamic parameters of the atmosphere to find out atmospheric stability conditions
  •  Apply dynamic and thermodynamic concepts to derive the energetic of the atmosphere for forecasting and prediction
  •  Apply the techniques for synoptic forecasting for short- and medium range forecasts
  •  Identify the formation, movement, and prediction of weather systems in the tropics and extra tropics with emphasis to Ocean land interaction.
  •  Analyze satellite cloud images to distinguish weather systems
  •  Practice and preparation of Forecast Reports for short range and medium range forecast for, fog ,dust, thunderstorm ,gustiness etc with the help of Forecast Simulator.
  •  Prepare forecast reports for general, marine, and aviation weather forecasting based on synoptic and dynamic techniques
  •  Demonstrate understanding of atmospheric stability, cloud physics, cloud formation and precipitation processes.
  •  Simulate various weather conditions using the Forecast Simulator system
  •  Formulate forecasts of temperature and other weather parameters
  •  Understand the principles of modern numerical weather prediction
  •  To perform simple simulations of weather forecast using NWP system using an Atmospheric Numerical Model.
