Class Description

Our latest course of Pilot training is the Multi-Crew Pilot Licence (MPL). This course is conducted over a period of 22 months, and is delivered in close co-operation with Qatar Airways, and the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority. The course is specifically designed to train suitable cadets with no previous flight experience to act as first officers (co-pilot) aboard a Qatar Airways Airbus A.320.  Subject to selection this course is open to Qatari nationals and non-Qatari Arab nationals residing in Qatar.

This course is designed exclusively for Qatar Airways, and its objective is to provide Qatar Airways with highly competent Airline ready pilots. In order to ensure a high degree of success candidates for the MPL course are subject to rigorous aptitude, ability and personality tests before acceptance  onto the course.
The MPL course is delivered in 4 phases consisting of :
• Phase 1 –   Theoretical Knowledge Instruction and Core Phase Flying
• Phase 2 – Basic Phase Jet orientation and Multi-Crew operations
• Phases 3 & 4 – Intermediate and Advanced Phase

Phase 1 – Theoretical Knowledge Instruction and Core Phase Flying

Training for the MPL program commences with a 38 week period of intense classroom study. Here we follow the European syllabus (EASA) covering 13 theoretical subjects and 14 QCAA  ground examinations.                                                                                                                                                                                                                    On successful completion of the core theory phase, core phase flying begins. This is conducted in our modern fleet of glass cockpit diamonds aircraft at our purpose built flight line facilities. The core phase follows a similar path to that of gaining a private pilot’s licence, but with more emphasis on professional aspects, and is designed to prepare future pilots for a life in a modern airline cockpit environment. In all 75 hours of flying training are accomplished, including 15 hours of solo flight. A further 30 hours of simulator training are also integrated into the core flying phase in the college’s simulator center.

Phase 2 – of the MPL program sees the introduction of ‘2-crew’operations with cadets now working together as a team.

In groups of 3 (Pilot flying(PF); Pilot not flying (PNF);  and Observer)  our cadets  experience  first-hand the real world of Airline flying, and jet handling. This stage is conducted on the college’s fixed base Airbus A320  simulator, and from this point onward all flight training is conducted in the Airbus A320  and focuses specifically on Qatar  Airways operating procedures.  This is sometimes referred to as the
‘clean’approach to MPL training, and is conducted by experienced airline pilots.

Phases 3 & 4 – Intermediate and Advanced Phase

Phases 3 and 4 of our MPL program are conducted in the Airbus A320  Full Flight Simulator (FFS). Here we conduct the final preparation needed to join the airline. Phase 4 is completed with a QCAA final handling type rating skill test, and on successful completion ‘base training’is then conducted  with Qatar  Airways. Base training consists of a minimum of 12 take off and landings,  and  subject  to satisfactory completion  an operator only (Qatar Airways) QCAA licence  with an Airbus Type Rating is issued. Now fully ready to join the airline our freshly graduated cadets begins ‘line training’ with the airline. This will typically consist of 40 ‘line sectors’with the airline in normal day to day ‘live’operations. Upon successful completion training concludes  with the issue of a full, unrestricted QCAA licence.
