PTD teaching can be divided into 2 main areas:

Ab initio Training & Post-Graduate Training

(a) Ab initio training:

  • This takes a student who has no aviation experience up to a Private Pilots License (PPL). This involves approximately 40 hours of flying with some basic ground school.

  • Commercial Pilot Licence with an Instrument Rating and having also passed the CAA ATPL exams (this is usually called a “frozen ATPL”). This is the basic requirement for those who wish to fly for the airlines.

  • The ATPL course is 72 weeks long and consists of about 1000 hours of ground school and 165 hours flying training, plus 51 hours simulator time.

(b) Post-graduate courses:

PTD offers several courses for those already in the aviation industry and who want, or need to hold additional qualifications. Many of these qualifications are mandated by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). Examples are:

  • Consolidation Courses

  • Dangerous Goods Courses

  • Airline security Courses

  • “Training Captain” Courses

  • Flight Scheduler Course

  • Flight Despatcher Course

  • Crew Resource Management Course
All subjects taught follow the Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA) format. All examinations are based on this format and set by the Qatar CAA.
