PTD teaching can be divided into 2 main areas:

Ab initio Training & Post-Graduate Training

(a) Ab initio training:

  • This takes a student who has no aviation experience up to a Private Pilots License (PPL). This involves 45 hours of flying with some basic ground school.

  • Commercial Pilot Licence with an Instrument Rating and having also passed the CAA ATPL exams (this is usually called a “frozen ATPL”). This is the basic requirement for those who wish to fly for the airlines.

  • The ATPL course is 72 weeks long and consists of about 1000 hours of ground school, approximately 180 hours flying simulator time and MCC and JOT is also avaliable.

(b) Post-graduate courses:

PTD offers several courses for those already in the aviation industry and who want, or need to hold additional qualifications. Many of these qualifications are mandated by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). Examples are:

  • Consolidation Courses

  • Dangerous Goods Courses

  • Airline security Courses

  • “Training Captain” Courses

  • Flight Despatcher Course

  • Crew Resource Management Course
All subjects taught conform to Joint Aviation Regulations. All examinations are based on this format and set by the Qatar CAA.
All flying courses offer Qatar CAA licenses. The College itself issues certificates for some post graduate courses.
